OpenAI Releases GPT-5.1

OpenAI has released GPT-5.1, and this update is less about huge model jumps and more about making ChatGPT feel alive in the right ways. Instant is noticeably warmer and more conversational — it follows instructions more naturally and doesn’t overreact to simple prompts. Thinking adapts how long it “thinks,” speeding through easy tasks but digging deeper on anything that needs real reasoning. It all feels more intentional and less mechanical.
OpenAI also introduced new personality controls that instantly change how ChatGPT communicates. You can pick from styles like Professional, Candid, Friendly, or Quirky, and the model now adjusts across all chats immediately instead of only in new conversations. There are early experimental sliders for warmth, conciseness, and emoji usage too — useful for anyone who wants ChatGPT to sound consistent with their brand or voice.
GPT-5.1 is rolling out now to paid users and will become the default model as the older GPT-5 versions sunset. The upgrade signals OpenAI’s focus on adaptability and user control, not just raw capability.

Google Plans to Put AI Data Centers in Space

Google just unveiled Project Suncatcher, an experiment exploring what happens if you move AI compute off Earth entirely. Their concept uses clusters of solar-powered satellites in a sun-synchronous orbit, each carrying TPUs and connected through high-bandwidth optical links. In that orbit, satellites receive nearly constant sunlight — up to eight times the effective energy collection of panels on Earth — which could, in theory, support massive AI workloads with far less energy cost.
The team has already tested TPU hardware under proton radiation and built a working optical-link demo hitting 1.6 Tbps between two transceivers. The next step is a real mission: Google and Planet will launch two prototype satellites in 2027 to test TPU performance in orbit and validate the high-speed links. It’s still a moonshot, but it hints at a future where scaling AI isn’t limited by Earth’s power grid or land-based data centers.

AI Expected to Reshape Up to 89% of Jobs Next Year
A new survey of senior HR leaders shows a sharp acceleration in AI’s impact on the workplace. Two-thirds say AI is already altering roles by changing daily workflows or automating pieces of jobs, and nearly nine out of ten believe 2026 will bring direct impact to most positions across their organizations. Leaders are divided on hiring plans, but many credit AI with boosting efficiency and innovation as companies reorganize around new tools.
Databricks Co-Founder Warns U.S. Risking Its AI Edge
Andy Konwinski says U.S. researchers are now seeing more breakthrough ideas coming from Chinese labs than American ones, largely because China is pushing open-source models while the biggest U.S. AI companies are increasingly closed. With top academic talent being pulled into proprietary labs, he warns that long-term innovation may suffer if the open research pipeline continues to thin out.
LinkedIn Launches Natural-Language People Search
LinkedIn is rolling out an AI-powered people search that lets users type queries the way they’d speak them. Instead of wrestling with filters, you can now ask for investors in a specific industry, founders with certain backgrounds, or people in your network who can help with a topic. The new system interprets intent rather than keywords and is available first to U.S. premium members.
Introducing WhatsApp Business Calls in Synthflow
65% of people still prefer voice, but 40% of business calls go unanswered. Now Synthflow Voice AI Agents can answer WhatsApp calls directly — resolving issues, booking, and following up 24/7 with full analytics.

Nested Learning: A Fresh Angle on Continual Learning
Google Research introduced Nested Learning, a new way of framing deep learning models that treats architecture and optimization as interconnected learning processes rather than separate systems.
By operating at different update frequencies, the model gains a more flexible memory structure that can incorporate new knowledge without overwriting old information.
Their prototype architecture, Hope, shows improved long-context memory and stronger performance on language modeling tasks, hinting at a possible path forward for overcoming catastrophic forgetting.
Voice AI: Get the Proof. Avoid the Hype.
Deepgram interviewed 400 senior leaders on voice AI adoption: 97% already use it, 84% will increase budgets, yet only 21% are very satisfied with legacy agents. See where enterprises deploy human-like voice AI agents - customer service, task automation, order capture. Benchmark your roadmap against $100M peers for 2026 priorities.
AI TOOL OF THE DAY 🚀
Softr is a no-code platform that turns your existing data into custom apps (internal dashboards, portals, lightweight CRMs) with AI features built directly into the interface.
