OpenAI releases GPT-5.2

OpenAI has introduced GPT-5.2, its most advanced model series to date, designed specifically for professional knowledge work and long-running, tool-using agents. The release emphasizes stronger performance on real-world outputs like spreadsheets, presentations, codebases, document analysis, and multi-step workflows.

According to OpenAI’s internal evaluations, GPT-5.2 Thinking outperforms or matches industry professionals on a majority of well-specified knowledge work tasks, with notable gains in long-context reasoning, coding reliability, vision understanding, and tool calling. GPT-5.2 is rolling out in ChatGPT for paid plans now and is already available to developers via the API.

Disney characters are coming to Sora

OpenAI and The Walt Disney Company announced a multi-year licensing agreement that will bring over 200 characters from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars into Sora, OpenAI’s generative video platform.

Under the agreement, fans will be able to generate short, prompt-driven videos using licensed characters and environments (excluding talent likenesses and voices), with select fan-created videos expected to appear on Disney+. Disney will also become a major OpenAI customer, deploy ChatGPT internally, and make a $1B equity investment. Disney-branded Sora content is expected to begin rolling out in early 2026.

Apple’s AI talent drain accelerates

More than a dozen Apple AI executives and researchers have departed in 2025, with a significant number joining Meta’s AI and Superintelligence efforts, alongside others heading to OpenAI, startups, or retirement. Apple’s long-time AI chief John Giannandrea has announced plans to step down in 2026.

Google debuts “Disco” for building apps from browser tabs.

Google introduced Disco, an experimental Gemini-powered tool that can turn your open browser tabs into lightweight interactive web apps (“GenTabs”), allowing users to build and refine custom tools directly from their browsing context.

Google Translate adds real-time headphone translation.

Google is rolling out a beta feature that lets users hear live translations through any pair of headphones, preserving tone and cadence. The update also brings Gemini-powered improvements for more natural translations and expanded language-learning tools.

Alongside the release, Google open-sourced DeepSearchQA, a benchmark designed to evaluate deep research agents on complex, multi-step information retrieval tasks across real-world domains.
